Plan for new Jewish homes in e. J'lem

The Jerusalem Municipality is reviewing plans for the construction of 104 new apartments in east Jerusalem, several media outlets reported Sunday morning.

According to the report, the new construction, planned for the densely populated Ras al-Amud neighborhood, is intended to take place on a lot which previously housed police's West Bank District headquarters. It will be connected to by a bridge to an existing Jewish neighborhood, Ma'aleh Zeitim.

Along with the apartments, the plans also provide for the building of synagogues, a mikveh, and preschools.

In response to the reports, the municipality said that the plan was reviewed by professional teams but was not approved for further deliberation, as it is not in accordance with the city's construction policy in the area.

But Ir Amim, a group which advocates for Palestinian rights in Jerusalem, claims that the municipality is pushing the plan forward and intends to bring it before the city's Construction and Planning Committee in the near future.

Rafsanjani urges following Leader's guidelines

Amid arguments surrounding post-election developments in Iran, influential cleric Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi-Rafsanjani urges all political groups to follow the guidelines of the Leader.

Head of the Expediency Council, Rafsanjani, expressed his direct support for Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and said the current situation needs everyone to observe the Leader's decrees and guidelines and the Constitution and to create a free atmosphere for giving legal responses to fair criticism.

He called on Iranian authorities and the nation to strengthen unity for ending the present political turmoil and countering problems on the international front.

"Moves based on wisdom and principles will materialize such an important issue," he said.

The official outcome of the June 12 presidential vote, which saw President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad win by a massive margin, provoked unprecedented, widespread protests.

The crackdown against street demonstrations resulted in the arrests of opposition figures, protesters and journalists -- who have been put on trial on charges of plotting to topple the government --- and the deaths of at least 30 people.

Among the opposing voices are Ayatollah Hashemi-Rafsanjani and Mir-Hossein Mousavi, whose credentials are well-known since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, as well as Mohammad Khatami, a two-time former president, and Mehdi Karroubi, a former Parliament speaker.

Mousavi and Karroubi claimed 'fraud' in the poll and asked for its annulment. The Guardian Council, Iran's electoral body, however, disputed all allegations and verified the results.

In his Saturday address to the session of the Expediency Council, Rafsanjani also said that authorities must follow Ayatollah Khamenei's advice on the issue of detainees jailed in the aftermath of the election.

"Everyone in every post should be committed to the Leader's advice on detainees of recent events and retrieving the rights of those whose rights have been violated," he said.

Swedish PM: No apology to Israel

The Swedish prime minister says his country will not apologize for an article in a Swedish newspaper accusing Israel of killing Palestinians to plunder their organs.

"No one can demand that the Swedish government violates its own constitution. Freedom of speech is an indispensable part of Swedish society," Fredrik Reinfeldt was quoted as telling the Swedish news agency TT on Saturday.

Swedish top diplomat has also ruled out any plan to apologize to Israel.

"The government does not review individual articles or what ispublished in the press. That is not our task," Foreign Minister Carl Bildt told Swedish radio news.

In an article titled "They plunder the organs of our sons", the daily Aftonbladet said Israeli soldiers abduct young Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza Strip and return their bodies to their families after removing their organs.

"Our sons are used as involuntary organ donors," relatives of Khalid a Palestinian man from Nablus told Donald Bostrom who authored the report, which was published on Aug. 17.

Bostrom has told Press TV that an international war crimes investigation awaits Israel over its soldiers' harvest of organs from dead Palestinians.

The freelance journalist underscored that the International Court of Justice -- the principal judicial body of the United Nations -- will likely investigate the report.
